About Whole Health Louisiana
Whole Health Louisiana is a cross-sector, collaborative initiative created to systematically address the widespread issue of childhood adversity and trauma through the integration of trauma-informed and healing-centered approaches in our state’s systems of care and support for children and families. This initiative is guided by Louisiana’s first-ever plan to address childhood adversity and trauma, which is critical to the well-being and fulfillment of our state’s children, families, and communities.
Making a Plan
To inform and develop the Whole Health Louisiana State Plan, the Whole Health Louisiana Coalition was established, bringing together community members, service providers, state agency leaders, and subject matter experts from all over Louisiana. This collaborative effort unfolded in three distinct phases: a statewide discovery assessment, a convening of key decision-makers, and the multi-sectoral, collaborative plan drafting process that included community conversations held throughout the state. The Whole Health Louisiana State Plan was released in November 2023.
The Whole Health Louisiana State Plan prioritizes collaboration as its primary focus. It aims to build and support the Whole Health Louisiana Coalition to facilitate cross-system cooperation and ensure effective plan implementation.
The Whole Health Louisiana Coalition collaborates with those who are already performing related work and those with the potential to perform this work. While numerous Louisiana organizations are making strides in trauma-informed care, their efforts are often hindered by policies that prevent vital collaboration among various sectors. The people of Louisiana have encountered unnecessary obstacles because of this disconnected approach. Whole Health Louisiana strives to usher in a new era of coordinated action for Louisiana by raising public awareness, amplifying evidence-based policies, sharing data for future decisions, and supporting the workforce to expand trauma-informed efforts statewide.
